With the portray of luxury that accompanies the reality tv show, the Real Housewives of Potomac, Nneka Ihim asserts that she’s true to what she depicts on television.
During an exclusive interview with Savvymedia she said “I am not one of those people who is pretending to have something. I am not renting cars, renting homes, or renting jewellry and bags. I own everything you see and that is just the way I live.”
Being in the spotlight isn’t as easy as it seems. Despite the glamour that comes with being on screen and having numerous people gush at you, there’s a lot that goes behind the scenes.
Some emotions are not expressed to avoid misconception while other characters are portrayed to feel among and not be left out in the game of class.
Celebrities like every other individual have the lives they live off camera which sometimes aren’t palatable. Only a few can boast of being true with themselves.
As they fight daily challenges of life, they still work on keeping up appearances. As they embrace the lovely admirations from fans, they still try to ensure that they are still making waves.
While some would fake it, others stay real; doing their bit to send the right message hoping that it won’t be misunderstood.
One of such celebrities who are true to themselves is Nneka Ihim.
Speaking about her experiences on the reality television show, she noted the things that she has learnt since the show began to air.
She said “since we started airing, I think some of the challenges have been the way some of the information has been communicated and people thinking that they know everything.
“You can say one thing here and someone will read it to mean something else, and then you find yourself trying to come up with an explanation that everyone will understand most easily. I have learned that it is what it is and that if no one understands what I meant, I don’t care!
Despite coming out strong and still staying strong, she has scars that she’s been able to tackle and hope that other women in similar situations would learn from.
Nneka hinted on her fertility journey as an aspect she hopes resonates with the audience and that they find it in spring.
She said “as an igbo woman we are traditionally taught to get married and have kids at a young age. I didn’t get married until I was 33, almost 34. In our culture that has people asking what your problem is and why haven’t you gotten married. That’s the story my whole life and I have intentionally waited to meet the right person who could understand me, my life and the goals I have.”
Nneka added that at 36 years of age she’s still trying to get pregnant.
“I am now 36 and still trying to get pregnant and that is something you guys will see this season. I think it is a very touchy topic because it is a culturally sensitive topic as well.”
Born into a Nigerian home of igbo descendant and married to a loving husband, Nneka has been able to celebrate her wins despite some delays in life that might have blown other people off the hook.
Her husband, she said “was all for it”.
“He knows who he married. He knows he has a high-maintenance wife. He knows I am wild and crazy and I love to drink my champagne and do my fine dining. He knows who I am”.
