The Nigerian music scene has found itself in yet another episode of celebrity drama, with Wizkid at the center stage.
The Nigerian singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun better known as Wizkid stirred up a storm online with his recent Twitter activity, particularly his veiled jabs aimed at fellow artists, including Don Jazzy.
The “Holla at your boy” crooner unleashed a barrage of tweets, targeting Davido, Ladipo, and notably, Don Jazzy, whom he labeled as an ‘influencer’.
He has since been trending on Twitter after a post he made requesting that he should be begged before releasing a song.
The post was made with a viral video that had earlier been said to be a video of Davido begging.
Fans took to the X platform with responses, which include some sending videos in respect to his request.
Despite typically maintaining a low profile online, Wizkid recently engaged with fans on X.
The drama unfolded after a fan urged Wizkid to weigh in on Mavin Record signee Ladipo’s recent remarks which stated “Nigerian” rappers that survived ‘hip hop is dead’ watching Afrobeat artists go through their own”.
Addressing Ladipo’s comments via his X account, Wizkid asserted that he has no business engaging with someone signed to an ‘influencer’ like Don Jazzy.
He said “lol never chatting to anyone signed to an influencer. Next”
Recall that in December 2022, in an interview with 10 Magazine, a British luxury quarterly publication, Wizkid asserted that the Afrobeats genre was innovative, as opposed to rap music, which he said was boring.
This however got social media erupted with reactions, with fans and observers chiming in on the unfolding drama.
Some speculated on Wizkid’s motives, suggesting that such controversies often precede new music releases, while others humorously called for Burna Boy to intervene and take control of Wizkid’s phone.
