Popular Nigerian skit maker, Folagade Banks better known as Mama Deola, has shared his story of how he began content creation and what inspired him.
In an interview with Savvy Media, the skit maker who is known for acting like an African mum in his skits disclosed what drove him to skit making and the inspirations behind his act.
In quote he said:
“If you want to do well, if you want to do great in any line of career, ‘consistency’ you can’t joke with it.”
Speaking on what inspired him to start creating skit he said he just wanted to make people happy with his talent.
“I knew I had a talent and I just wanted to make people genuinely happy. If you can make one person laugh at least 30seconds in a day, I think it’s a great course” .
On what influenced his content, he credited it to the environment he grew up in, his family and the church he was born into.
“Growing up I was exposed to a lot of mothers, a lot of values, that maybe a normal person wouldn’t be exposed to but because of the kind of church I attended, the kind of family I was raised in, you know I knew a lot of mummies that were like mama deola, the extra careful mummies, the mummies that don’t take nonsense, the disciplinarians, you know, so I will say my background, personal experiences, yes of course I have come across alot of mothers that are super caring you know, yet very very hostile when they need to be, maybe when you are doing something bad.”
Speaking on his creative process when developing a new skit, he said the idea comes from a place of reminiscing on things he has seen or been through in the past and also his experiences either from his childhood days or things he heard from his mother or things his friends told him about their mother.
He also revealed that feedback from his audience makes him happy. He shared a story of how five women met him on a train while he was in London he said he is usually delighted to know that his videos put smiles on people’s faces.
Folagbade whose journey into content creation started during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown revealed that he looks forward to exploring the pains and agony of motherhood in his future contents, adding that mothers go through a lot in life.
Speaking about collaboration with fellow content creators in producing skits, he said he works more with people who aligns with his brand.
Answering the question on whether or not he has faced criticism on the contents he creates and how he handles it, he said he is so blessed with the kind of audience he has that he has not received any criticism.
Mama Deola who advised upcoming content creators to be consistent admitted that challenges will definitely come.
