As anticipation is on the rise for the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, following the announcement of this year’s award categories nominees on Sunday March 25th, fans expect their favourite to stand out.
The nominee announcement which aired on Sunday on all Africa Magic channels, stirred excitement among fans across the continent.
The awards ceremony which celebrates excellence in African film and television, is slated to take place on the 10th and 11th of May, 2024.
The executive head of Content and Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, Busola Tejumola, said ‘‘The quality of entries received was simply outstanding, and the jury cut their work out for them in shortlisting the nominees. This year’s lineup is exceptional, reflecting the diversity and creativity prevalent in African cinema and television, and we can’t wait to celebrate them’’.
The organisers of the awards earlier called for entries (from 15 Jan – 14 Feb ), inviting filmmakers from across Africa whose productions had been publicly exhibited or broadcast from 1 December 2022 to 31 December 2023 to put in their work for possible nominations.
The performance awards have undergone streamlining this year; they now fall under the categories of Best Actor and Best Actress in a leading or supporting role.
There are now 27 categories, sixteen non-voting, nine audience voting categories, and two recognition awards – Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards. The AMVCA panel of judges headed by ace filmmaker Femi Odugbemi will decide the non-voting categories.
The voting window is open until 28 April, allowing fans to support and honour the outstanding talent showcased throughout the year.
The 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is brought to viewers by Africa Magic in partnership with Amstel Malta as the lead sponsor.
Other sponsors include Pepsi, Promasidor and Martell, Tecno, Verve, QuickTeller, Tiger Beer, MTN and Indomie instant noodles.
The award show is scheduled for the 11th of May with a live broadcast across all Africa Magic Channels on DStv and GOtv.
This event which was first held in Lagos on 9th March, 2013 has been on for 11years
