The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended and placed in custody Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, due to allegations of naira abuse, the act of spraying naira notes, and currency mutilation.
He was apprehended in Lagos on Wednesday night and is currently being held in custody at the Lagos Command of the EFCC.
Confirming the situation to newsmen in a telephone interview on Thursday, Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, stated that Bobrisky would face charges in court.
Oyewale said, “Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of nara notes, and currency mutilation, among others.
“We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira. Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon.”
Bobrisky has been in the news for various controversial reasons including winning the “Best Dressed Female” Award at a movie premiere on March 25, 2024, a development that irritated many entertainers. Including his online fight with verydarkman who claimed that the latter has the backing of top people in power.
Amid the social outrage, Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said there is no provision in the law suggesting that crossdressers in Nigeria should be arrested.
