While Nigerian Afrobeats powerhouse, Rema, was dazzling at the Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Spring-Summer Show during Fashion Week in Paris on Tuesday, his global hit ‘Calm Down’ was receiving trophies at the 2024 ASCAP London Music Awards.
The song was honored with the prestigious Song of the Year and Top Streaming Song awards.
Also the talented co-writers and co-producers of the song, Michael Hunter (aka London) and Andre Vibez, were also recognized as winners.
This makes Rema the most decorated African artist in 2024, having already won six awards. Among his achievements are the Trends Award in Brazil, iHeartRadio Music Award, ASCAP Pop Music Award, and two ASCAP London Music Awards.
Notably, ‘Calm Down’ recently made history by becoming the first Afrobeats song in history to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US.
With these wins, Rema has now accumulated three awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), making him the Nigerian/African artiste with the highest number of ASCAP awards.
Meanwhile, South Africa-born British singer-songwriter and producer Kenya Grace won the 2024 ASCAP Global Impact Award, in recognition of her “viral skyrocket to the top of the dance music world.”
